ギリシャ語の「apodeiktikos（証明的な）」が語源で、ラテン語の「apodicticus」を経て英語に入った。

apodicticは、絶対的な、必然的なという意味を持つ形容詞です。大学以上のレベルの学術的な文章や講義で使用されることが多く、証拠や論理的な主張などに対して使用されます。
