ラテン語の「lenire」（和らげる）から派生した英単語。

The judge was lenient with the defendant and gave him a light sentence.
裁判官は被告人に対して寛大で、軽い判決を下した。
My boss is usually lenient about arriving late to work, but today he was very angry.
私の上司は通常、遅刻に寛大ですが、今日はとても怒っていました。
The teacher was lenient with the students who didn't finish their homework on time.
先生は宿題を時間内に終わらせなかった生徒たちに寛大でした。

lenientは「寛大な、甘い、厳しくない」という意味の形容詞です。例えば、裁判官が被告人に対して寛大な判決を下す、上司が遅刻に対して寛大である、先生が宿題を時間内に終わらせなかった生徒たちに寛大である、などの場面で使われます。
