analogousとは意味や使い方

ギリシャ語の「analogos（比較可能な）」が語源。analogosは「ana-（同じ）」と「logos（比較）」から成り立っている。

The structure of the human eye is analogous to that of a camera.
人間の目の構造はカメラのそれに類似している。
The way the brain processes information is analogous to a computer.
脳が情報を処理する方法はコンピュータに類似している。

analogousは「類似した、似たような」という意味を持つ形容詞です。例えば、人間の目の構造がカメラに類似している、脳が情報を処理する方法がコンピュータに類似しているなど、物事の共通点を表現する際に使われます。
